Everything We Know about Fall Out Boy’s Mysterious Upcoming Album
Fall Out Boy has been teasing fans with news of their eighth upcoming album since the start of 2019, and the anticipation is at an all-time high. While details are still scarce and little is known about the album as a whole, there are some hints that have been released that can give us an idea of what it might contain.
The Chicago band first began talking about a new album when they asked fans to submit artwork for their 2020 best-of compilation “Believers Never Die: Greatest Hits Vol. 2” featuring songs from their entire discography. This was followed by a tweet from frontman Patrick Stump in March 2020 confirming that Fall Out Boy were working on new music and had begun recording what was believed to be the eighth studio album.
In April 2021, bassist Pete Wentz posted a photo on Instagram with the caption “here we go” which caused many fans to wonder if this meant work on the album had been completed or if it was finally on its way to being released soon. He also posted a video in May 2021 with him playing part of a new song which has lead many fans to believe there will be more than just one track featured on the upcoming LP.
While these small hints don’t give us much insight into what we can expect from Fall Out Boy’s eighth studio album, they have done enough to keep fans hyped up and excited for its release. More recently, drummer Andy Hurley shared some alternate artwork designs for potential single releases that could come out before the full LP drops – adding fuel to speculation surrounding the project’s timeline and overall sound. When it comes down to it though, we won’t really know what kind of magic Fall Out Boy have cooked up until they finally unveil their eagerly awaited eighth studio album sometime in 2021/2022 – so until then all we can do is speculate!
Late in 2022, Fall Out Boy set their fanbase on fire with several cryptic promotional moves. First in November the band took out a full-page ad in their hometown Chicago newspaper with a new logo including the “FOB8” and a the phrase “If you build it, they will come.” Throughout December the band mailed postcards to fans linking them to a mysterious website, and on Christmas 2022, the band released a claymation video which seemed to feature a snippet of a new song. Finally, on New Year’s Day 2023 the band released a statement titled “We’re Back” and said in part:
“We spent the last year jamming ideas in a tiny room [and] can’t wait to share them with you. Thanks for always sticking around. Thanks for working the beat. Spoiler alert: we got more than a gold watch coming for you next year.”
Whatever sonic direction Fall Out Boys’ mysterious upcoming eighth studio album ends up taking – one thing is certain – it will likely be chock full of surprises given how tight lipped they’ve remained thus far!
Fans can expect nothing less than another brilliant piece of work from these seasoned veterans; even though details remain sparse right now – once released this record should prove itself as yet another successful outing from FOB!
