The Most Famous Tattoos in Rock & Roll
Rock star tattoos have been a popular form of expression since the early days of music. They are often seen as symbols of rebellion, individuality, and even superstition. There are many famous rock stars who have been covered in tattoos, each with a unique story about their body art. These stories range from personal mythology to tales of inspiration and artistic freedom.
One of the most well-known rock star tattoos belongs to singer-songwriter Axl Rose from Guns N’ Roses. His iconic tattoo features an image of Celtic cross on his right forearm, surrounded by skulls each caricatured to look like the original members of the band. The image was famously used as the cover for their seminal debut album Appetite for Destruction after the original cover was banned by retailers.
Another iconic tattoo belongs to Ozzy Osbourne. His collection includes thirteen stars on the right side of his neck that spell out “OZZY” when read together. This is not only a tribute to himself but also serves as a reminder to remain humble despite being one of the biggest names in rock music history.
Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil has several memorable tattoos including an eagle on his back that stretches across both shoulders with the word “hope” written underneath it. He got this tattoo when he was struggling through serious drug addiction and it served as an inspiration for him to stay clean and sober and overcome his addiction.
Bon Jovi frontman Jon Bon Jovi is often thought of as a “squeaky-clean” rock star, especially compared to his hard-partying 1980s contemporaries. However, even JBJ has some ink on his arms. One shoulder features a cattle skull, while the other features a Superman logo, which Bon Jovi got during the band’s 80s heyday when he was arguably the biggest rock star in the world.
Lastly, there is Tommy Lee from Motley Crue whose famous chest tattoo features two skulls with wings intertwined around them which symbolize eternal friendship between himself and fellow bandmate Nikki Sixx who also has matching ink on his chest. Lee has stated in interviews that this design meant so much more than just two friends getting matching tattoos – they were two brothers bound by blood and will always be connected no matter what happens in life or music career wise.
Rock star tattoos are more than just art – they represent deeper meaning within each individual artist’s life story or personal mythology and are often seen as symbols for rebellion, inspiration or artistic freedom for those who choose to get them permanently etched onto their bodies forever!
